Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2012, $70,000)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.
The Alabama Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) is housed in the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Division within the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center (ACJIC). With this award, the Alabama SAC proposes to develop and improve performance measures by making secure web-based tools available to agencies to increase agency access to data, and by providing local law enforcement agencies with the ability to assess progress in addressing public safety and administration of justice goals. In addition, the SAC will continue to produce the following annual statistical publications that have proven useful to law enforcement officials, policymakers, academicians and the media: Crime in Alabama 2012, Domestic Violence in Alabama 2012, Juvenile Victims of Violent Crime in Alabama 2012, and Drug Arrests in Alabama 2012.
