Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $2,436,081)
The Nevada Department of Public Safety will use funds to enter into a contract with a vendor who can provide consistent, reliable employees who have extensive experience in research and data entry of arrest and disposition information into state criminal history systems. Hiring an outside vendor with trained staff rather than solely relying on temporary employees will guarantee the consistent progress of backfill disposition entry which is Nevada’s priority project with this funding. Additionally, Nevada will use funds to continue the Repository’s 6 Full-Time-Equivalent (FTE) temporary positions to data enter dispositions into the State CCH as well as the FBI III so that final case outcomes will be available in both state and national systems accessed by the FBI’s NICS and continue the 4 FTE temporary positions to assist with the workload in the POC Firearms Program, which includes data entry into the NICS Indices, scanning of case files and FIST entries. The FTE temporary staff in both units will also provide resources and information to the vendor to assist in their disposition gathering efforts. Nevada DPS will also use funding to continue to provide various types of outreach and training to criminal justice and law enforcement partners to stress the importance of supplying accurate and timely information to the Central Repository concerning persons with federally prohibiting mental health adjudications or commitments, final dispositions, court orders and records of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence for inclusion in state and federal databases to conduct NICS checks.
