Reentry Mapping and Resource Locator

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.

The District of Columbia Statisical Analysis Center (SAC), located within the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC), will use SJS funds to advance the District's efforts to evaluate prisoner reentry programs and initiatives. The SAC will create a reentry mapping network of individuals previously incarcerated who are returning to the District and the location of service providers in place to meet their needs. This geographic assessment approach will enable the SAC to examine the extent to which services for previously incarcerated individuals align with the locations they are returning to and ultimately improve the transition experience by proposing recommendations to service providers and updating the resource literature that exists for reentry services. Data will be collected from various agencies including the D.C. Department of Corrections, Bureau of Prisons, Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency, and the Office of Ex-Offender Affairs. Findings will be used to inform policymakers about how reentry services can be better allocated and identify those service areas that are found to be deficient based on the analyses completed.
