Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $185,000)
The goal of the National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) is to improve the Nation's safety and security by enhancing the quality, completeness, and accessibility of criminal history record information and by insuring the nationwide implementation of criminal justice and non-criminal justice background check systems. BJS provides direct financial and technical assistance to the States to improve criminal history and other related records and to build their infrastructure to connect to national record check systems both to supply information and to conduct the requisite checks.
Under this award, the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission will transfer funds to the Tuscon Police Department to support staff efforts to reduce the current backlog of unprocessed arrest events and update the criminal history record information. Funds will also be transferred to the Arizona Department of Public Safety to: 1) partially support the implementation of an online certification and security awareness training program for all personnel who have access to state criminal history record information; and 2) support continued efforts to image criminal record documents to enhance electronic access to criminal history record information.
