Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $1,973,464)

The California Department of Justice (CA DOJ) will use funds for the following project:  1) Justice Electronic Document Imaging Workflow Enhancements – To create several interactive workflows to streamline several manual criminal history searching processes. The successful implementation of these enhanced workflows would significantly reduce the amount of time CA DOJ staff spend searching for incomplete criminal history repository information. 2) The Judicial Council of California (JCC) will use funds to collaborate with the CA DOJ to expand progress made from previous NCHIP awards to improve accuracy. The JCC will (1) conduct background research to identify possible modifications to criminal citation forms to increase defendant comprehension and compliance, (2) implement a research plan to identify counties where there may be evidence of disposition reporting lags and potential solutions for remediation, (3) continue to act as a liaison between the CA DOJ and the superior courts to improve Mental Health Reporting for the purpose of firearm prohibition and to facilitate communication between the courts and the CA DOJ, (4) support the CA Master Charge Code Table project by attending meetings and conducting background research and providing general support to the assigned project attorney and business system analyst, (5) maintain the Data Dashboards.
