FY 2023 NCHIP

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS), the parent agency of the Mississippi Criminal Information Center (MCIC), is the administrator for criminal history improvement programs for the State of Mississippi.  The MCIC is Mississippi’s sole conduit for information exchange with the FBI National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) system, as well as for other national data exchanges and statewide law enforcement information exchange within Mississippi. Over the past several years, under the auspices of the MDPS/MCIC, the State of Mississippi has built and continues to improve a state-of-the-art criminal records system.  This system, the Mississippi Criminal History System (MCHS), was created using NCHIP funds as well as other federal grants and state funds.  With technology ever-changing and its costs continually rising, the State of Mississippi finds it challenging to maintain and improve its existing criminal history system, along with the hardware and software applications that support it.  MDPS will allocate NCHIP funds towards achieving the following goals and objectives: 1) Purchase switches for CIC's network; 2) Contract with Meris for correlation processing of records, implementation of a disposition queue; develpoment of a violent person file to add/modify/remove/cancel entry to the NCIC, and adding capability for MCHS to submit information to CPI's iRap Portal; 3) Purchase live scan units for local agencies in Mississippi; 4) Purchase fingerprint card scan units for CIC; and 5) Use funds for travel to attend conferences to include the FBI Compact Council, FBI CJIS, FBI APB, FBI NIBRS, SEARCH, and CIS Compliance.
