Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $56,882)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.
With funds from the 2009 State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program, the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission (ACJC) will create a web-based criminal and juvenile justice data clearinghouse that provides web site visitors with access to a wide range of state and county level data from criminal and juvenile justice agencies including law enforcement, courts, and corrections. Self-reported youth substance use, delinquency, and risk and protective factor data that are collected through the biennial Arizona Youth Survey will also be made available through the AZSAC data clearinghouse.
ACJC and the AZSAC are committed to building a centralized infrastructure that informs research, policy, and practice in Arizona. Funding is also being requested for travel to the annual BJS/JRSA conference in St. Louis, Missouri.
