The goal of the National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) is to improve the Nation's safety and security by enhancing the quality, completeness, and accessibility of criminal history record information and by insuring the nationwide implementation of criminal justice and non-criminal justice background check systems. BJS provides direct financial and technical assistance to the States to improve criminal history and other related records and to build their infrastructure to connect to national record check systems both to supply information and to conduct the requisite checks.

Under this award, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) will use funds to: (1) continue the four-phase project to migrate New York State's integrated criminal justice system from a mainframe computer environment to an open architecture platform; this project is a complete overhaul and re-engineering effort of the State's computerized criminal history (CCH) system; and (2) provide financial support to the Administrative Office of the Courts to continue to identify and correct inaccurate court information and reduce the current number of missing dispositions in the State Repository.
