Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $2,578,290)
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will use funds to continue the modernization project of the Biometric Identification System (BIS) by converting the system to a cloud-based solution. The BIS acts as a central repository and matching mechanism for the state’s biometric data, including fingerprints and palm prints. BIS fingerprint repository is used to identify persons booked in jail; for Rapid ID checks (roadside instant checks to verify identity); and for those persons who undergo fingerprint-based criminal history checks for working with vulnerable populations or concealed weapons license. BIS also submits criminal biometric data to the FBI to be used in nationwide and background checks. During the final year of the three-year project, the schedule will include implementation of all Phase 2 project deliverables, as well as system acceptance and go-live. Phase 2 builds upon Phase 1 by expanding the scale and functionality of the FDLE Cloud MBIS platform by adding all remaining ABIS functionality.
