Vermont 2007 State Justice Statistics Program. Continuation of 2006 grant.

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through the collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

The Vermont SAC will use the $49,853 SJS award to continue to carry out and expand two (2) projects from last year's award: The first project entails analyzing criminal history records by conducting an adjudication and sentencing study as a response to current legislative and policy interests. This will involve data collection, a new development and analysis plan, data analysis and table construction, and production of final reports. The second project involves research using incident-based crime data that are compatible with NIBRS data. Activities include analysis and development of the NIBRS Crime Report. In addition, a report on domestic violence patterns and characteristics will be published as a research brief for policy use and public dissemination.
