Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $324,000)

The goal of the National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) is to improve the Nation's safety and security by enhancing the quality, completeness, and accessibility of criminal history record information and by insuring the nationwide implementation of criminal justice and non-criminal justice background check systems. BJS provides direct financial and technical assistance to the States to improve criminal history and other related records and to build their infrastructure to connect to national record check systems both to supply information and to conduct the requisite checks.

Under this award, the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority will pass funds through to the Illinois State Police (ISP) and to the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County (CCC) to automate and improve case outcomes from courts and prosecutors.

The ISP will implement a web service interface which to allow circuit clerks to query and update arrest information within their jurisdiction and provide the ability to complete information required to the disposition reporting process.

In addition, funding to the CCC will support development of an application to process error rejects, and provide a means to correct errors by either batch run of system edits or through research and investigation by CCC staff.
