Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $85,195)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.
The Maryland Statistical Analysis Center (MSAC) will use SJS funds to conduct a variety of research tasks to support five SJS Program Themes: Increased Access to Data; Performance Measurement; Deaths in Police Custody Reporting; Statewide Crime Victimization Survey; and Data Collection/Research Examining Family Violence and/or Stalking. The MSAC will continue its efforts to enhance its website to include updated UCR data, additional research and legislative reports, and links to other criminal justice resources. The MSAC will also continue to provide statistical and research support for academics, state agencies, legislative services and delegations, local public safety agencies, and the general public, and will assist state agencies with the development and improvement of relevant performance measures to evaluate progress. Lastly, the MSAC will use funds to support the implementation of the Deaths in Police Custody Reporting program and the development of a statewide crime victimization survey.
