Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $99,787)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.
The state of Wyoming's Statistical Analysis Center (WYSAC), housed in the University of Wyoming, will conduct a statewide crime victimization survey to provide state-level estimates of victimization and allow comparison of State estimates to those provided by the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), as well as Wyoming's previous survey conducted in 2003. In addition, WYSAC intends to collaborate with Wind River tribal and law enforcement representatives to continue the tribal crime data project which began in FY 2008. The project involves working with representatives from the Northern Arapahoe and Eastern Shoshone tribes to address criminal justice issues on the reservation and identify areas for tribal crime data collection and distribution.
