Washington FY 2010 State Justice Statistics Program

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.

Under this award, the Washington SAC, located in the Human Services Section of the Forecasting Division at the Washington State Office of Financial Management, will carry out two research projects with the Washington State Center for Court Research (WSCCR) at the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). The first project will study patterns of sex offenders utilizing the state's criminal history records to provide further insight into criminal specialization and recidivism patterns. A report will be published on the SAC website. The other project will research the precursors and outcomes of individuals who are both offenders and victims of family violence. The project will be conducted in collaboration with the Gender and Justice Commission of the Washington State Supreme Court. Patterns of criminal and non-criminal offenses, recidivism rates, sentencing options, and the impact on timing of court procedures will be evaluated. The results will be compiled into a series of articles which will be published on the AOC website and presentations will be delivered to key stakeholder groups.
