Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $79,862)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.
The state of Wyoming's Statistical Analysis Center, housed in the University of Wyoming, will study the statewide prescribing patterns of Schedule II and above drugs (such as opioids, benzodiazepines, stimulants, and barbiturates) as recorded through the Wyoming Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) as having a high potential for abuse. This study will be useful in measuring the effects of substance abuse policy changes and helping launch educational campaigns against substance abuse. In addition, WYSAC intends to collaborate with Wind River tribal and law enforcement representatives to continue the tribal crime data project which began in FY 2008. The project involves working with representatives from the Northern Arapahoe and Eastern Shoshone tribes to identify areas for tribal crime data collection and distribution.
