Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $46,873)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.
With funds from the 2008 State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program, the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission (ACJC) plans to conduct projects focusing on performing criminal history records audits and reporting performance measurements. The Arizona Statistical Analysis Center (AZSAC) will work with the Arizona Department of Public Safety's Access and Integrity Unit to audit local criminal history record submissions and improve the quality of Arizona Computerized Criminal History data. AZSAC will also work with ACJC's Drug, Gang, and Violent Crime Grant Program and their grantees to refine the mechanisms used to report grantee-specific performance measurements.
In addition, AZSAC intends to collaborate with BJS, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the 21 federally recognized tribes in Arizona to improve the collection and dissemination of tribal crime data.
