Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $50,000)

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

The Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council's (GJCC) Statistical Analysis Center will use funds to continue efforts to build capacity within the agency to conduct statistical analysis and strengthen partnerships to coordinate the use of statistical analysis, research, and evaluation data to guide policy development and monitor the performance of the criminal justice system in Georgia. Specifically the SAC will (1) continue the development of a web-based clearinghouse of criminal justice system information, and (2) support the transfer of the criminal history research database to the SAC to allow SAC analysts to conduct criminal history record research internally.
