The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.
Under this award, the Florida SAC (FSAC) will assess the state's criminal history record improvement over time using the Records Quality Index (RQI). The RQI is a composite of different outcome and process measures used to determine an overall standard to assess the performance of criminal history systems. The FSAC will compare three two-year time periods (2001-02, 2003-04, 2005-06) of the Computerized Criminal History (CCH) files, maintained by the state repository, to evaluate specific performance measures as they relate to timeliness and completeness of records stored within the CCH and measure the impact on the RQI over those periods of time. The assessment of the records from the three periods will enable the FSAC to identify areas for future improvement efforts. The programs developed to automate the Florida RQI will also be used to model the effects of future record improvement activities and target resources effectively.
