Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $54,985)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through the collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.
Under this award, the Nevada SAC will carry out an evaluation of the Safe Village Initiative (SVI) in the West Las Vegas area. The SVI is a community problem-solving project consistent with Operation Ceasefire models developed in Boston, Chicago, and Newark. The evaluation will be a multi-jurisdictional effort designed to assist criminal justice agencies, social service organizations, local clergy and citizens to reduce gun violence.
With SJS funds, the SAC will: 1) provide SVI with an enhanced analytic capacity for problem-solving and evaluation; 2) provide the SVI with an enhanced GIS capacity; and 3) provide local agencies with analytic support and documentation of the SVI process.
