The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

The New York Statistical Analysis Center will use funds to carry out the following projects: (1) analyze the State's criminal history records to examine youthful offender recidivism rates; (2) conduct research using incident-based crime data for four participating local police departments in the State (Binghamton, Mt. Vernon, Spring Valley, and Clarkstown); (3) conduct an evaluation of the State's prisoner re-entry initiative program; and, (4) use incident-based data to analyze crimes in the city of Albany against off-campus college students.
