The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians ('LTBB' or 'Tribe') is one of twelve (12) Federally-recognized Indian Tribes in the State of Michigan and one of ten (10) tribes with an established justice system.
The goal of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians Tribal Criminal History Record Improvement Project is to improve public safety within the LTBB Tribal community and among all the tribes in Michigan by enhancing the quality, completeness, and accessibility of criminal history information and facilitating the implementation of criminal justice and non-criminal justice background check systems.
By the end of the project period, the following objectives will be met: (1) at least four tribal court systems will implement a database to effectively and properly maintain criminal histories (training will be provided for each of nine tribal courts); (2) training will be provided to the tribal leaders, prosecuting attorneys, tribal court judges, court administrators and chief law enforcement officers of the ten tribes in Michigan with justice systems to address issues related to implementing comprehensive justice information sharing among tribes, states, and the federal government; (3) a uniform criminal code numbering system will be developed for maximizing tribal criminal history record sharing; and (4) all tribes in Michigan with justice systems that do not have an automated fingerprinting system will increase capacity for obtaining and implementing Livescan automated fingerprinting systems.
