The 923 reports included 831 rapes and 92 attempted rapes, a 10-percent decrease from 1994. The total was 8 percent lower than 5 years ago and 35 percent higher than 10 years ago. When the time of day was known, 45 percent of the rapes occurred during the 6-hour between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. The most common 2-hour period was from midnight to 2 a.m. Only 17 percent of the rapes occurred during the 8-hour period between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. The least likely period was from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Where the day of the week was known, 51 percent of the rapes were committed on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday; 21 percent were committed on Saturday. More rapes occurred in August than any other month. Approximately three of every five victims were white. Forty-eight percent of the victims were under age 18 and two-thirds were younger than 25. Twenty-five percent were ages 14-17. A total of 16.8 percent of the rapes were committed by a family member, and 57.1 percent were committed by someone else known to the victim. Forty-four percent occurred in the victim's residence; more than two-thirds occurred in the victim's, suspect's, or another residence.
