These volumes present the texts of State laws and regulations regarding access to information contained in criminal justice information systems, particularly information regarding criminal histories.
Abstract
Topics covered in the laws include the types of individuals and agencies that can obtain access to these records, the purposes of such access, procedures relating to access, penalties for violating requirements relating to confidentiality, and reporting requirements. They also specify the information that may be included in criminal histories; define the terms related to information systems, confidentiality, criminal histories, and other topics; and explain the concepts and procedures related to freedom of information and access to public records. The volumes include the laws of the 50 States as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
