Annotation
These articles discuss current crime control policies and summarize the results of several recent surveys conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) on prosecution, State and local police and sheriffs' departments, and inmates in local jails.
Abstract
Other articles focus on the drug data available from the BJS Drugs and Crime Data Center and Clearinghouse, planning for audit training sessions, and increasing participation by States in the Attorney General's program to improve criminal history records. The discussions note the President's call for new investment in fighting street crime, the Attorney General's announcement of new priorities for addressing drugs and crime, and the increase in the number of sworn police officers in State and local police agencies between 1987 and 1990. Other articles report that a large percentage of inmates report that their family members have also been incarcerated, that 95 percent of State prosecutors report telling victims the outcomes of their cases, and that 43 percent of felons on probation were rearrested for a felony within 3 years.
