FY 2023 California Law Enforcement Transition to NIBRS—Rapid Deployment Model Project

Funding will enable the California Department of Justice (CA DOJ) to support the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office (LASO) in their respective transitions to the FBI's National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS). These three agencies represent a significant gap in crime reporting, as together the agencies comprise just over a quarter of the state's population. NIBRS data submissions from these three agencies will bolster the ability of BJS and the FBI to generate state level crime estimates for California and improve the overall accuracy and precision of national crime estimates generated from the NIBRS data.
