Description
The BJS Federal Justice Statistics Program (FJSP) serves as the national clearinghouse of administrative federal criminal case processing data. The FJSP is authorized by statute to collect, analyze, and disseminate comprehensive federal justice transaction statistics and to work jointly with other federal agencies to improve the quality of federal justice data (42 U.S.C. § 3732 (c) (15)). Under this program, administrative data are received from six federal justice agencies each year and standardized to enhance quality of case processing statistics. The data represent the federal justice stages from arrest to corrections and are used by BJS to generate annual statistics and periodic reports on topics of special interest. The data are a part of the BJS on-line query tool and users can interactively generate federal statistics for the years 1994-2013. FJSP data are archived at the National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD). This program furthers the Department's mission by working in partnership with federal justice agencies and sharing state-of-the-art knowledge and information. The FJSP supports innovative strategies and approaches needed to address the most pressing problems facing the federal criminal justice system.
