Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2017, $94,581)
The goal of the National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) is to improve the Nation's safety and security by enhancing the quality, completeness, and accessibility of criminal history record information and by insuring the nationwide implementation of criminal justice and noncriminal justice background check systems. BJS provides direct financial and technical assistance to the states to improve criminal history and other related records and to build their infrastructure to connect to national record check systems both to supply information and to conduct the requisite checks.
Under this award, the Oklahoma Miami Tribe will use funds to upgrade technology in the Miami Tribe Police Department and the Miami Tribe District Court to better maintain and share records with other local, State, and Federal law enforcement agencies. Funds are being requested to purchase a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal for the Tribes Police Department. The terminal will be used for entering data on domestic violence, stolen property, protective orders, and warrants, then sharing the data with the Ottawa County Sheriffs Office and the FBI. A livescan will be procured to replace the aging device that runs on Windows XP which is no longer compatible with the FBI. The device will be used in fingerprinting and conducting background checks on arrestees and for employment purposes. Lastly, funds will be used to establish a court records management system and procure equipment to share records with Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the FBI regarding criminal cases.
