Federal Justice Statistics Analytical Support Program

This award results from a competitive selection emanating from the FY 2017 BJS Federal Justice Statistics Analytical Support Program (FJSASP) solicitation. The FJSASP is designed to provide technical support for statistical and methodological research associated with BJS's Federal Justice Statistics Program (FJSP). Since 1982, BJS has used the FJSP to collect, standardize, and publish statistics about the federal response to crime and the operation of the federal criminal justice system. Data are provided to the FJSP by six federal justice agencies representing the stages of arrest and prosecution through pretrial release, adjudication, sentencing, appeals, and corrections. Data from the six agencies are linked using a Dyad link system. BJS archives the FJSP data for access by researchers.

The two primary aims of the FJSASP solicitation require that the awardee: 1) enhance the use of the FJSP data, particularly the Dyad Link File System, by developing high quality reports on substantive issues in the federal criminal justice system; and 2) propose and conduct methodological research to identify gaps and limitations of the FJSP data series (including the Dyad Link File System) and propose methodological/statistical solutions. Throughout the course of this four year project, the priorities of the FJSASP will be determined by BJS senior leadership in consultation with the BJS program manager, the awardee, and project affiliates. The project will require that the awardee have a strong capacity to be flexible in responding to project demands and priorities that will shift across substantive areas as well as a research agenda in proposing topics for analysis.
