Building the Georgia SAC Core Capacity for Cross-Agency Data Sharing and Analysis

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.

The Georgia Statistical Analysis Center (GSAC) is located within the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. The GSAC has been tasked to produce policy-relevant research using CCH and state agency administrative data, support juvenile justice reform efforts, and support the SAA’s responsibility in managing state and federal criminal justice funding.

Under the 2016 SJS program, the SAC will conduct Phase II of the data repository project from their FY 14 SJS grant. In 2014, the SAC partnered with criminal justice and law enforcement agencies to build an Internet data-sharing highway to increase access to state criminal justice statistical data and routinize data sharing. Aggregate-level data collected by the SAC, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Georgia Department of Corrections, and the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice will be shared via a SharePoint site a secure user interface. The datasets will be in the form of a flat file and includes UCR Parts I and II, UCR Family Violence Incident report data, Department of Juvenile Justice Population Summary Data, and Department of Corrections Intake Summary Data. Development of this data-sharing system will not only allow for more efficient transfer of data between agencies but also would allow the SAC to provide a snapshot of crime and victimization trends within the state.(CA/NCF)
