Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $49,678)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.
Under this award, the Nebraska Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) will accomplish the following activities: (1) continue reporting to BJS on deaths in police custody by collecting statewide data on deaths occurring in the process of arrest or in the pursuit of arrest; (2) continue to collect data and/or research examining minority overrepresentation in the criminal or juvenile justice systems; and (3) conduct an assessment of national drug court evaluations to serve as starting point for future data collections and evaluation designs to assess state drug court programs.
