The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.

The Massachusetts Statistical Analysis Center will use funds to carry out the following activities: (1) analyze data collected through the Massachusetts Hate Crime Reporting Form and NIBRS crime data from 1990 to 2008 to gain a better understanding of the prevalence and characteristics of hate crimes in the Commonwealth; (2) analyze all arrest and criminal history data on firearms related offenses to produce a report containing offender demographics, arrest circumstances, and case outcome information.
