Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $49,426)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.
The Alabama Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) is housed in the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Division within the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center (ACJIC). With this award, the Alabama SAC will conduct the following two projects: (1) Increase web access to criminal justice data by developing a mechanism to allow law enforcement officials and the public to perform web-based queries on the NIBRS-based data collected by Alabama's UCR Program. This will improve access to information and provide greater visibility to crimes and arrests reported within the state. (2) Continue to produce annual statistical publications proven useful to law enforcement officials, policymakers, academicians and the media: Crime in Alabama 2009, Domestic Violence in Alabama 2009, Juvenile Victims of Violent Crime in Alabama 2009, and Drug Arrests in Alabama 2009.
