Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $58,979)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.
The Illinois Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) is housed in the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA). Under this award, the Illinois SAC will be conducting the following activities: (1) increasing web access to Illinois criminal justice data by providing timely information in a centralized location and providing enhanced capabilities for graphical analysis; 2) serving as the official juvenile justice data clearinghouse by making core juvenile justice datasets available online; 3) conducting an evaluation to identify and develop community-level violence and risk factor indicators for the Governor's Safety Networks Initiative and making data and crime mapping available online; and 4) enhancing the deaths in custody reporting methodology for improved compliance within the state.
