Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $49,847)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.
Under this award, the Maine Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) will analyze crime and corrections data to assist the Maine legislature, Coordinating Council, and the new Sentencing and Corrections Coordinating Council in developing a long-term plan to deal with escalating costs, identifying efficiencies in practices, and developing recommendations for improvement in the prison and jail systems. Findings will be published in a data book of crime trends. The SAC will also use funds to enhance the Maine SAC website by adding new downloadable data sets and spreadsheets and update the Maine SAC Data Center.
