The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.
Under this award the Connecticut SAC will: 1) continue to obtain statewide data on deaths occurring in the process of arrest or in pursuit of arrest pursuant to the Deaths in Custody Reporting Act of 2000 (Pub. L. 106-297); 2) provide technical support to the Criminal Justice Policy and Planning Division's studies on recidivism and prison population; 3) conduct an evaluation/outcome study of the Department of Correction Re-entry Program; and 4) publish statistical analyses and presentations on the Connecticut criminal justice system as required by the State Legislature, Governor's Office and various other bodies such as the Connecticut Sentencing Task Force.
