Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $50,000)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through the collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.
The District of Columbia SAC located in the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council will use funds to: (1) develop a model comprised of relevant indicators and performance measures to gauge patterns and changes in criminal activity in the District over time; and, (2) test the model (and recalibrate as needed) to determine its usefulness in forecasting patterns in crime in the District overall and by specific geographical areas within the city. A special emphasis will be focused on juvenile justice in the development of the model.
