Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $55,496)

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through the collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

Under this award, the New Hampshire SAC will:

1) Carry out a study of New Hampshire cyber crime related needs and resources, including equipment, personnel expertise, and funding, which will include an annual survey of law enforcement agencies and an examination of prosecutorial-related cyber crime needs through interviews with 10 County Attorneys. The study will be used for planning purposes both in the state and in other states. Comparing and contrasting findings from previous surveys will provide quantifiable measures of the ongoing successes and challenges for the New Hampshire Cyber Crime Initiative. Research findings will be widely disseminated for use by criminal justice departments to improve their electronic crime fighting strategies and determine how limited resources may best be allocated.

2) Develop a state of the art flow model of the state prison population that will be robust enough to simulate "what if" situations, and aid in planning and creating "impact statements" in response to pending legislation.
