Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $50,000)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through the collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.
The Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) program is administered through the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, Division of Criminal Justice, Research and Evaluation Section.
Under this award, the SAC will continue to meet the needs of the criminal justice community by evaluating and supporting projects and programs, such as Megan's Law and, operating the criminal justice clearinghouse which increases the availability of data in the State for research purposes. Plans are also being made to use the data from these programs to assist in automating the process to collect DNA from offenders, and to develop a Judgment of Convictions database to hold offense and sentencing data.
