Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $283,963)
This award provides funding to administer the National Census of State Court Prosecutors, 2007 (NCSP-07). This data collection will gather information from the Nation's nearly 2300 state court prosecutors on their office procedures, budgets, workforce levels, workloads, and types of cases handled. Information from this collection is used to inform prosecutors, courts, and others throughout the justice community on the characteristics and activities of the Nation's prosecutors. The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) has been collecting and reporting these data over the past two decades.
The Urban Institute (UI) will serve as the data collection agent for this project. UI's responsibilities include the timely and efficient implementation of all phases of data collection and preparation of the final dataset for analysis. This includes using paper and Web-based surveys to achieve a 95% or greater response rate, conducting extensive non-respondent follow-up, ensuring error resolution, and delivering a clean dataset to BJS with complete documentation. UI will also provide a Web-based capability for BJS to monitor data collection progress and ensure data quality. It is expected that the project will be completed within a 12-month period.
