Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $49,976)

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

Under this award, the Pennsylvania SAC will continue development of databases that can be accessed through the SAC's parent agency website. The current website contains only static spreadsheets and tables that require frequent updates and present limited views of the available data. The initial focus of this project has been on collecting and presenting Common Pleas court data and providing access to the Juvenile Databook for internal users. Preliminary work was completed on this project using input from a focus group of people most likely to be frequent users of the data. The priorities identified by the focus group have directed the development of the database/power cube content. Access to additional criminal justice data will be available on the SAC website including jail, prison, parole, socioeconomic, census and court data. A consultant will also be utilized to update the intake process in order to add additional years of data to the court database.
