National Criminal History Improvement Program FY 2006

The goal of the National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) is to improve the Nation's safety and security by enhancing the quality, completeness, and accessibility of criminal history record information and by insuring the nationwide implementation of criminal justice and non-criminal justice background check systems. BJS provides direct financial and technical assistance to the States to improve criminal history and other related records and to build their infrastructure to connect to national record check systems both to supply information and to conduct the requisite checks.

Under this award, the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission will carry out the following projects:

1) the development and implementation of an automated system that will track National Instant Background Check System (NICS) requests, send faxes, and document the results to/from the FBI/NICS;

2) the creation of an interface between the city of Phoenix prosecutor's case management system and the Arizona Disposition Reporting System; and,

3) the development of a computer interface among the Pinal County Attorney's Office, the courts, and the State repository.

These projects will help to improve the accuracy and completeness of criminal history record information in Arizona and national databases.
