Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $143,618)

The Oklahoma District Attorneys Council (DAC) will use funds towards a subaward with the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety (DPS) to support the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (OLETS) Training Initiative. The project will provide the tools and resources needed to increase training to users of the OLETS system. OLETS is used to enter warrants, protection orders and other entries critical to NCIC and NICS. Fully trained users will lead to more and better-quality entries. Primary activities for this project will include acquiring the proper equipment to fully complete this project, then create and establish OLETS User Groups. These groups will be the major driving force behind completing the project. After initial meetings to start the project, regularly scheduled meeting will determine the trajectory of the training program. When the project is started, DPS will use feedback from the OLETS User Groups and FBI audits to determine training needs, thus continually assessing and modifying training as needed. The projected outcomes of the project will be to increase the knowledge and ability of the OLETS User Groups. This will result in better and more complete information in OLETS which in turn will prevent firearms purchases to those ineligible individuals. Increased public safety is achieved with better OLETS data.
