Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $75,000)
Through the State Justice Statistics (SJS) grant, the D.C. Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) seeks funds to document and evaluate the implementation and impact of the District’s Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP). One of the District’s responses to the uptick in gun crime and the increases in firearm injury victimization has been to develop both community and hospital-based violence interruption initiatives. In partnership with Project Change, The Office of Victims Services and Justice Grants, DC Health, and the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, the CJCC will engage a subject matter expert to evaluate the implementation and impact of HVIP services on the likelihood of repeat victimization, early death, violent death and later justice-system-involvement. Through this award, partners hope to begin building the evidence base around the District’s hospital-based violence interruption efforts, understand the implementation landscape, and examine the impact programs have on participants.
