Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $101,441)
The Iowa Department of Public Safety (IADPS) will use FY22 NARIP funds to improve the quality, accuracy, and completeness of Iowa criminal history records available to the criminal justice system, the NICS and the public. Specifically, IADPS will purchase five Livescans and one Cardscan located throughout Iowa at our local law enforcement partner agencies. By providing our local partners with these machines, the IADPS will be able to maintain data security and integrity, subsequently improving record quality. Upon implementation, the IADPS will monitor numerous data points within AFIS to identify any anomalies or other issues that could impact record quality through changes in data submission patterns from Iowa law enforcement agencies for our criminal history record system. The Livescan project is focused on improving the overall quality of Iowa’s criminal history records with an emphasis on data input into Iowa AFIS and CHRI records. Iowa will further improve the quality of records through the implementation of replacement Livescans on the fully supported Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise operating system. These updates will allow the IADPS to monitor fingerprint data submissions and address any identified shortcomings in a timely manner due to upgraded functionality within that operating system. IADPS will continue to build upon success in the past with Livescan and Cardscan deployment in a continual statewide effort to obtain a significant reduction in the time lapse from the event (arrest) occurrence to updating the CCH record in the central repository.
