Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $2,332,299)
New York State, and its' state administrative agency, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), will use FY22 NARIP funds towards a sub-award with the New York State Department of Health (DOH) and Health Research Incorporated (HRI) to develop a secure case inquiry system to streamline communication and improve response time from facilities regarding NICS reports. Project activities include: 1) provide ongoing support of existing NICS systems to maintain, process and report qualifying involuntary admissions, as well as security and technical compliance of Information Technology (IT) systems; 2) migrate NICS reporting infrastructure to modern cloud infrastructure for enhanced performance, availability, and scalability; 3) perform audit and compliance activities which will both be spurred by their analyses (ad-hoc and routine), as well as at the request of the NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH) and federal entities; and 4) provide training and end-user support to the hospitals so that they may have continuity in and understand their responsibility for NICS reporting activities.
