FY 2022 Maine SJS Program

The Maine SAC will use FY22 SJS funds to build off of the current trend report endeavor from the FY21 SJS award and further increase public access to statistical data by converting the prosecutorial dataset into an interactive database via Power BI. This data visualization platform would enable the users to mine the database in real-time as well as create reports, graphs, and charts that meet their specific needs while doing so in a secure fashion. The project will help the Maine Prosecutors' Association (MPA) more readily share its data among themselves, with other stakeholders, and the public. Once this database is designed, it can be updated periodically making this a dynamic dataset. The project includes obtaining and adding 2022 Maine prosecutorial data to this effort. Maine has eight prosecutorial districts; each is led by an elected district attorney (DA) who serves four year terms. The DAs prosecute most criminal cases that are committed in their jurisdictions with the notable exception of homicides and some drug cases. Each of the eight district attorneys has the responsibility and authority to both investigate and prosecute criminal offenses in their respective jurisdictions and engage in activities to deter the commission of crimes. The Maine Prosecutors’ Association (MPA) is the coordinating body for the district attorneys that provides information, collaboration, and support.
