This webinar presents information on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) measures within Bureau of Justice Statistics’ (BJS) survey data collections, including methodological discussions and statistical estimates from published BJS reports.

Rachel and Jenna present on the methodology and cognitive testing procedures that resulted in the addition of these measures to the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). They also discuss victimization and population estimates from the recent BJS report Violent Victimization by Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, 2017-2020.

Michael discusses SOGI measures included on the National Inmate Survey (NIS) and National Survey of Youth in Custody (NSYC), along with published statistical estimates.

Lauren discusses the measurement of SOGI in the Survey of Prison Inmates (SPI) and presents SOGI estimates for prisoners as published in the BJS report Profile of Prison Inmates, 2016.

A moderated Q&A follows the presentations.
