BJS seeks Supervisory Statisticians (Unit Chiefs) for its Jails and Community Corrections Unit and Statistical Methods Unit. The Jails and Community Corrections Unit Chief will oversee the management of data collections related to jails and community corrections. The Statistical Methods Unit Chief will oversee projects related to design and estimation methods for complex survey and administrative data. Job duties for both positions include—
- supervising a group of employees performing work at the GS-9 to GS-14 levels and performing the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised
- consulting and collaborating with government officials, professional associations, and others to advise on the application of statistics to criminal justice issues, policies, and programs
- providing technical guidance to contractors or grantees on documentation requirements including problem reports and troubleshooting plans
- performing statistical data collection activities, such as preparing, processing, analyzing, and coordinating ad hoc and standing collection requirements
- preparing for and presenting on the interpretation and analysis of statistics and technical data to government entities and other stakeholders.
