The Bureau of Justice Statistics seeks a Senior Statistical Advisor to serve as a technical expert and principal consultant on methodological and analytical issues associated with the design, conduct, and analysis of statistical data collections of national impact. As part of the executive management team, this Senior Statistical Advisor will advise the Director, Principal Deputy Director, Deputy Directors, and staff on complex methodological problems.
The Senior Statistical Advisor is recognized nationally as an expert in statistical methodology, data collection, and analysis and is engaged in the performance of research and development activities that encompass the cognitive sciences, survey methodology, experimental design, and data science. Job duties include—
- planning and providing technical assistance for the development and utilization of complex methodologies
- assuming a key role in the methodological development and statistical design of new national data collection programs and the redesign of existing programs
- reviewing and evaluating concept papers and proposals for specific statistical efforts to be sponsored by the bureau
- conducting and facilitating original research designed to investigate new theories and practices in data collection methodology and to examine alternative design and execution of national statistical data collections
- serving on interagency, national, and international special work groups, task forces, or expert panels on special projects or studies critical to the resolution of far-reaching operating issues and problems.
